Does the very first post of a blog need to include an introduction? Well, here goes nothing....
As the mother of a new baby, my life is transforming in many ways, but especially in the sense that my social life is becoming based on the Internet. When I brought Caroline home from the hospital, my husband helped me set up a "nursing station" in our bedroom next to the portable crib. I have a laptop, a telephone, a nice comfy chair, and a little table for the endless cups of coffee I'm consuming on a daily basis. I'm REALLY good at getting back to people via email, and I'm spending a lot of time people-watching and catching up with family on my facebook page. I'm also the member of a message board for mothers of babies born in October '08. I've been a member of this board since the second month of my pregnancy, when it was an "expecting club". Anytime day or night, I can find a shoulder to lean on, hear stories that will make me laugh..or cry, and find out whether or not the color of my baby's poop is normal...by asking one of my virtual friends. And of course the online shopping is fantastic! It makes me wonder what my mother did with the endless hours she spent nursing my brother and I. Did she read books? Stare at the wall? Sleep?
I decided to start this blog because I've noticed other new mothers with their very own blogs, a virtual scrapbook of the little things going on in their childrens' lives. What a wonderful idea! I also realize that my friends and family with real jobs can't take my daily phone calls to hear about the amazing things my little baby girl is doing. I don't think that my thoughts are particularly interesting, I'm more or less taking the advice of my mother--that I should start writing down things about Caroline and thoughts about being a new mother so that one day she can hear about her life from the beginning. So here I am sharing it with whomever else would like to log on and take a look!
